About

Head of Department :DR. SARITHA M
Welcome to Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Government Engineering College, Wayanad was established in 2010 with an under-graduate programme. The department has well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories to augment the coursework as well as to enhance the research potentials. The depleting fossil fuel resources and increasing environmental concerns on the increased emission of CO2 are demanding the invention of new technologies which are energy conscious. The new knowledge society requires continuous learning through novel approaches supported with research and development. Thus the department vision and mission reflects this by producing knowledgeable and committed technologists to serve our country and humanity as a whole. The hard work and sincerity are the strong pillars of success. Through our practices we strive to impress our students to inculcate these values and support the mission of GEC wayanad. The Institute is located in the hill range and near to the Tea estates of Wayanad , the high altitude district of Kerala bordering Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and the climate is extremely suitable for stay and study.
Our alumni are successfully employed in multinational IT companies, private industries, and public sector organizations like KSEB and the Electrical Inspectorate, while many pursue M.Tech and higher studies, and some have become entrepreneurs. We warmly invite our alumni to support our initiatives through various forms of interaction, and we welcome collaboration with universities, research bodies, industries, and utilities to build a strong knowledge society for the future. The department’s 13 dedicated faculty members—including two professors, one associate professor, and ten assistant professors—are actively involved in teaching, research, and publications in international journals and conferences. Five hold PhDs from IITs/NITs, some guide PhD scholars, and they lead technical societies like IEEE, ISTE, and the Electrical Engineering Association, helping students develop leadership, interpersonal, and technical skills. Through social outreach, they also provide technical support to upgrade infrastructure in government-aided institutions such as medical hospitals.

Facilities
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Government Engineering College Wayanad remains deeply committed to creating an inspiring and comprehensive educational experience for its undergraduate students. With this goal in mind, the department maintains an extensive collection of advanced laboratories and essential support facilities, all made accessible to students across the full academic semester. These spaces empower students to dive into practical experimentation, pursue creative research activities, and deliver high-quality projects in core and emerging areas of electrical and electronics engineering. True to its mission of integrating deep theoretical understanding with real-world engineering capabilities, the department consistently invests in upgrading and modernizing its infrastructure. Equipped with cutting-edge equipment, power systems, measurement devices, and simulation platforms, the labs reflect the latest industry trends and technological progress in fields like power generation, control systems, renewable energy, and electronics. This forward-thinking setup helps students build a well-rounded, future-ready skill profile that connects academic theory directly to practical problem-solving and innovation.
Through this supportive framework—where lectures, simulations, and hands-on work blend naturally—the department nurtures not just technically proficient graduates, but also creative thinkers and potential trailblazers equipped to lead in the evolving domains of electrical power, smart grids, automation, sustainable energy solutions, and next-generation electronics.
